Well from initial feed back, I would be more than happy to do a rally in Redding.
It just so happens that the folks who own Mountain Gate Rv are friends and neighbors and I believe we could get a great discount. My friend Bonnie also works there and cooks up a storm for any groups thay have. She is a fantastic cook. There is also JGW, Premiere and Sacramento River RV. I think Redding RV is too close to the freeway and it seems too many long term for me. I haven't been through Sacramento River RV in a long time. Premiere is a top rated park and a little off the freeway. You guys might do a search and see what you think of the parks.
Redding Convention and Visitors Bureau will help me plan as well. I am a Redding native, and wrote magazine articles on tourism for the north state, so I do know the area well. The Sundial Bridge is spectacular and a must see. If we do Redding. neither the weather nor roads are much of a concern unless we want a trip to Lassen.
Right off the top of my head, within 45 to an hour minutes we have ... Shasta Caverns, Lassen Park, Historical towns of French Gulch, Weaverville and Lewiston. Dunsmuir and Mount Shasta. Within 15 minutes we have the Turtle Bay museum, Aboreteum and the Sundial Bridge, Old Shasta Historical park, Whiskeytown and Shasta Lakes, Sacramento river.
Of course we also have the Mt. Shasta Mall and the Anderson Factory outlets for indoor activities, as well as the usual assortment of boutique stores and WalMarts. Two Bowling alleys and Redding has the new Big League Dreams Sports park for those wanting to watch a local league baseball or soccer game. The Sacramento River Trail for those ambitious walkers and bikers, and many golf courses from an easy 9 hole municipal to the new John Daly course in Corning. and last but not least, I think I can arrange a tour of Shasta Dam if we aren't on Orange alert.
Does that sound like enough to do?
To answer other questions:
Rubicon, I really want to do a trip to Plymouth as well, so why don't we work on one for September? Scenery should still be beautiful there and weather good. Maybe even better for winery tours? (I'm down with that... LOL)
Mark & Kristy,
We just did the highway 70 drive in November. Road was in great shape and we had no issues. A couple 6-7% short grades, but we are on the verge of being overloaded and we handled them fine. Of course, we do call Ray "Mr. Pokey", so speed wasn't an issue. We were too busy looking at scenery to drive very fast anyway. The tunnels were what made me nervous. They just didn't look tall enough.
Thank you all for your input! More, More!
