I found a 5 lb. plastic tub of Pennzoil Wheel Bearing Lubricant 706 in my grandfather's workshop, but I'm not finding any info on the internet about it except for people selling vintage metal tins from it.

What do you guys know about it? OK to use? The reason it's not around anymore?

Thanks!

Since it was your grandfather's, unknown age of each, I would opt to sell it as vintage rather than lube my bearings with it.
Lubricants have come a long way in providing benefits in the way of lubricating, heat resistance to breakdown, corrosion and probably a lot more than what the older lubes can provide.
Spend a few bucks for some top notch modern grease.

You are joking right?? Why on earth would you use something that has been around from who knows when?

I worked in lubricants for Shell Oil who own Pennzoil, grease has a 5 year shelf life, after this timeframe the product ingredients begin to breakdown.
Do not use this on any equipment.
You can use Shell Gadus SV 220 number 3 for your wheel bearings: the grease is red in color.

Got this grease sheet from dexter axle when I contacted them for parts one time. Here are the recommended grease types for packing the bearings.
