    packing the bearings

If you have hand packed the bearings, it is unnecessary to pump any additional grease into the spindle. There is no additional benefit and is just a waste of grease and time.

    By-Pass Valve

You don't have to have 3 way valves. You can go to Lowe's or Home Depot, purchase 3 1/2" valves, 2 tee fittings, rings, ring tool, 2 1/2" threaded adaptors, and about 3' of Pex tubing. Install the adaptors on the water heater, hook up the cold and hot water lines, back from the adaptors 2" or...

    Safety Breakaway Switch

Disconnecting the battery won't do any good if you have the unit plugged in, as the converter will supply voltage to the whole 2 volt system.

    GMC Battery Low Voltage

Have your meter hooked up to one of the batteries and have someone crank it over, what is your voltage while cranking?? Check both batteries, anything less than 11 volts, replace the batteries.

Hot water heater... Warm water heater?

I would replace both bypass valves, they are not seating, and allowing cold water to bypass.

Mighty mites! (or "How to kill the bugs without really trying")

You can purchase some good insecticides at Walmart, Lowe's, etc.. and apply it your self. I would soak anything that touches the ground, tires inside and out, landing gear, stabilizers, sewer hose, electrical line, etc.. Then bomb the inside.

    GMC Battery Low Voltage

This is where I would start as well. If they are over 3 years old, I would have them checked and replace them in pairs if you have 2.

Water heater bypass valve not working

Your best bet is to by a new bypass kit, and change the whole thing and start out new. The kit will have every thing you need and you won't have to try and retro fit it.

Any other Heartland travel trailer owners have their dog lock them out of their trailers?

Trailer, no. Truck, yes. Actually I think it was the cat. While we leave the truck running for the animals, I have to make sure the wife has the other key while we are out getting the trailer level and settled in. We have a newer Ram truck, it has one of them electronic key fob thingy, I can...

    Ducted front AC?

Most likely the main A/C in the living room is ducted and the one in the bedroom, if you have one, is not ducted.

What A/C temperature differential are you getting....

I have been in 108* temps, on asphalt spots, full sun, no shade, and very high humidity. Been able to keep the inside temperature at 75* with the units cycling. The main A/C is going through the ducts and the bedroom A/C on and the temperature slightly high than the main A/C. It is easier to try...

    Leveling problems with new rig

Agreed, that is why we have that thingy between the axles that the springs attach to, I believe it is called an "equalizer". I have on many occasions blocked only one tire if I only need to raise it half the distance of one block.

    Water Taste

You need to chlorinate or shock the system. Drain the system of all water, lines, water heater, fresh water tank, etc.. Pour about 4 cups of bleach in your fresh water tank, fill it until it over flows. Turn on the pump, fill the water heater, and pump the chlorinated water through all...

After two years, plastic plumbing fittings are self destructing

Another thing to consider, while Pex is very tolerant to water freezing in the lines, the fittings, plastic or brass, are not. If a poor winterizing is done, any water that may settle in a fitting area, will freeze and break the fitting. I have seen this particularly when the lines are blown...

Trip with new truck...another wild ride! Long one again! Pics Tho

The tranny will get better as it learns your driving style. Also make sure you keep the programing current in it as well. We left for Florida last November, had 3700 miles on the new truck, averaged 9.4 mpg for the 3300 mile trip. And I am not a slow poke either. I have 20,000 on my 2010, and it...

Extra step on outside/Fresh water tank and pump

Can't help you on the step, but on the water issue, look for a valve that switches between city and tank water. The water heater bypass would have no affect if you don't have any water from the cold or hot faucets.

What do guys use for leveling blocks?

I use the Lynx stacking blocks. They work very well and take up little space and are light weight. I bought them at Wal-mart for $30 a set, cheaper than a RV dealer. I carry a 6' long 2x8 to lay down first when we have a gravel space, to keep from messing them up.

Help needed with Dual Tire Pressure Checking

You need a dual head gage, like the big trucks use. The are about 16" long, I have to remove my wheel covers to make it easier to access the inside dual. I tried the extensions once, broke my valve stem and I caught it before I ruined the tire.

    Need some help pretty quick

Most vehicles today have separated the tow harness from the tow vehicle electrical. In GM and Dodge, there is a separate fuse box under the hood that houses these fuses. If you have a newer truck, there also is a computer that runs the trailer electrical. On some of the Dodges, when you trip...

    Trailer brake gain

When new, you will experience what seems to be greater wear as the shoes seat into the drums. After the first 200 miles or so will be the greatest seat in time depending on how much the brakes are used. Then the next 3000 miles or so they will be fully seated. You should be good to go then...

Max cooling for a hot RV?

We set the thermostats on our fantastic fans and let them run while we go down the highway. We do have the max air type covers on the to keep the wind from ripping them off. Height concerns on added A/C

13'6" is the maximum height any one can travel down the US highways without a special permit and routing. I stand at 13'3" at the top of my satellite dome, the A/C is about 6-8" lower. We have the Dometic Penguin low profile unit. Never had any concern on the interstate and highways. If you...

    Hole in Black Holding Tank

I have used a 2 part epoxy that works like body filler. It is specifically designed for working with ABS plastics and holding tanks. Just make sure it is cleaned well and roughed up well. If it is a crack, you need to drill 3/16" holes at each end of the crack to keep it from continuing...

    New Cyclone - Hydraulic Failure

It sounds like you answered you own question. If the switch is sticking, it is bad. It sounds like the contacts may have welded itself at some time. This is usually caused by too high of a draw through it, or loose connections that cause a higher draw.

    Water heater propane ignition issues

Check and see if there is a spider web in side the burner. You may have to pull the burner out and fish it out with a wire. Do not use compressed air, as it will push it further in the burner, and the only way to correct it if it is blown all the way into the burner is to replace it. The web...
