    Nor-Cal chapter Leader stepping down

With great regret, I have announced my resignation as Nor-Cal chapter Leader. John Dawson will be handling the Spring Rally this year. As many of you know, we have bought a house in Idaho, near Mountain Home. I am still working full time at Safari RV Repair at Shasta Lake for the time being and...

    gas refrigerator HELP

Just to add a bit. You MUST have at least 9.5 volts at the fridge for the control board to function. If batteries are low, it may not work. It should work if you are plugged in and your converter is working. I have never heard mine running, but I leave it in the auto mode and it switches at...

Compatibility with B&W Companion hitch and Firestone RideRite Air Springs

AirLift has one of the only kits I know of made specifically for the B&W. We've used 2 of them now. One on an 05 f350 dually and another on an 08 f350 dually. Hope this helps. :)

Your tips for a looong road trip

Depending how far north you are coming, A visit to Lassen National Park is a must-see. If you don't like roughing it, there are several nice rustic RV parks with full hookups within a quick drive of the entrance to the park. One of my favorite space saving laundry items are the Purex 3-in-1...

    B&W Hitch Question - New Ford F-350

Let me make a few calls tomorrow morning when I get to work, and I'll see if our distributor has one in any of the warehouses. I'll see if I can find one close to you. I just sold one a few weeks ago, but there are none in our closest warehouse and I have to log into our system to check the...

    About to Place our order.

RE: the pin box cover. We've got a guy that is proto-typing one for us now. Should have the first one by the time we go to Gillette. He can do them in just about any color, graphics, etc. I'll post here how this works out. It's for a clients Landmark.

Plugged into incorrectly wired 30A and think I fried my appliances.

On some of the appliances (refrigerator mostly) they can be jumpered to check. The HWH boards can usually be put on a tester. Microwave probably is an internal fuse. Get it to an authorized (Dometic, Norcold, etc.) Service center. Might cost you an hour of service time, but would be worth it...

    Bathroom Fan

There are 4 different hinges. They are all 14" universal replacements. My guess is that its either the newer elixir or the jensen plastic hinge. One has crimp ends, one has a screw that holds it at each end, one looks kind of like a piano hinge and one has the metal part on the base and plastic...

Warranty Issues and problems with some Dealers.

More tales from the Darkside (service industry): Our normal labor rate is $98 hr. We charge $110 for warranty work because of the extra paperwork, phone, and processing. I have never had Heartland question either rate. We charged them $110 in the beginning, but we do so much now, and I have a...

Things to see and do around Elkhart?

The Old Bag factory in Goshen is full of artisan shops and a good restaurant. If you like RV surplus, D&D is out about six miles from the fairgrounds on the same road as the Fairgrounds. Amish farm, big old barn chock full of parts. We got some $40 retail light fixtures for $2, cabinet doors...

    Oregon Cape Blanco State Park

Don't wait until 4:00, and the roads are pretty good. Last time we were there we were in a class A, but the sites are deep and wide with a lot of privacy. Windy and a walk to the beach. There are rows of bushes between the sites that kind of help with the wind. The lighthouse tours are...

    Audit Bay at Heartland!

I believe this is an excellent step for Heartland. As someone who deals with the warranty end of these trailers (Excellent department, by the way) I would suggest holding the dealers feet to the fire as well. I know they have an allowance to do a PDI before the unit is delivered to the end...

EVENT: Heartland Chapter Rally: CA, Oroville - 3/30/2012 to 4/1/2011

A huge thank you to each and every one that attended the Oroville Rally. It was a lot of fun and the rally wouldn't be possible without you. Special thanks to the KOA folks for taking such great care of us, and to my decorating "ninjas" that had all the decorating and wrapping work done in 20...

Landmarks new 5 year warranty will cost you $1800 or more to keep it.

If a shop told you it would cost $360 to check your caulking, I want to work there. If you do your own caulking, it would take a half to one hour labor for us to do a visual and minor testing. If we do work, maybe 1.5? Our rate is $98 hour, $60 half hour minimum. Most of the shops in our end of...

    Ceiling Light over Dining Table

Bill, I'll also check to see what lumen rating our 921 bulbs come in. I've been wanting to brighten mine up a little too. I swapped the reading lamp bulbs out for some new LED's a couple months ago. Makes a pretty big difference, especially for the heat output. Light is much clearer, brighter...

Thanks Rod and Donna for the kudos, but other than the phone calls, it's not a ton of work. The first one was, even with only 4 rigs, but after that, they get easier. I look at it this way. Bill, I'll check at work on Monday. We have some NOS fixtures over there and I'll see if any have clear lens. I'm assuming you have the same antique bronze fixture I do? Round with a couple bulbs? I did find a conversion for candlepower to lumens, which although not real accurate, does help...

Boy, Bill, I wish there was a like button on here like facebook. LOL great job with the link. I'll look into the Amish cooling units, but I suspect the freight charges would put us close to what a new fridge costs. Most of what we order from Elkhart that has to be shipped by truck is well...

    Dometic Frig Pooped Out

Yellow is the kiss of death. Leaking coolant from the cooling unit. As an FYI, I wouldn't get a rebuilt unit although cheaper. The new Dometics have a 1 year warranty vs 90 day for most of the rebuilts. We see quite a bit of failure right out of the box with 3rd party rebuilds.

    Dometic Frig Pooped Out

Actually a replacement cooling unit from Dometic will be different that the one in your refer from 3-4 years ago. New Addition!

Don't sell the Cyclone. Our youngest went camping at 2 weeks, the oldest at 5 days and the middle one somewhere in between. Take my word for it, it's easier to go with the trailer, heat, cooling, refrigerator, stove. remember, it's not like the tent days. Basically you take your house with you.

ATF: North Trail - Lots of Issues with 3 month old 2011 27 RBS

I wouldn't give your repair facility the benefit of the doubt. It takes about 5 minutes to get HL approval for repairs. Maybe 24 hours if you have to email extra pictures. You might have to wait a week or so for parts, but not for approval of repairs. In fact, I can't think of a single RV...

    Thoughts on the 2008 F-450?

Having just purchased a 2008 dually in September, I can speak to a couple other issues that the guys haven't. Removing the rubber mat and repairing the floor in basement

One of the reasons that HL or any other manufacturer might not use brass is that brass is illegal in several states for water supply systems. Vermont and CA just to name a couple. If we want brass water fittings we have to sneak across the border to get them.
